have been named the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the week ending October 26.
The Flames' captain, coming off his second 50-goal season, fueled the team's 3-0-0 week with five goals and two assists, meaning he was involved in seven of the Flames' 11 goals. Thanks to their perfect week, the Flames are now 4-3-1 after a 1-3-1 start. Audio: Jarome Iginla 10/27/08
For the season, Iginla already has six goals and 10 points in eight games. Though it's early, he's on target to exceed last season's totals of 50 goals and 98 points.
"It's a nice honour. It feels good. It was a good week for our team," said Iginla. "It was a fun week. It's something that you don't really think about. When you get told it is a nice honour. We'd like to keep this going as a group."
FIRST STAR – JAROME IGINLA, RW, CALGARY FLAMES Jarome Iginla
Iginla led all scorers with seven points (five goals, two assists) in three games as the Flames recorded three wins for the week. He began the week by scoring a goal in a 2-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on Oct. 21. On Oct. 23, he notched a hat-trick in a 5-3 win over the Nashville Predators. He finished the week by notching one goal and two assists in a 4-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Oct. 25. The seven-point week brings Iginla’s season total to 10 (6-4--10), tied for 15th in overall NHL scoring.
SECOND STAR – PETER BUDAJ, G, COLORADO AVALANCHE
Budaj posted a 3-0-0 record with a 1.62 goals-against average and .941 save percentage as the Avalanche recorded three victories for the week. He stopped 26 of 29 shots in a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 20 and made 25 saves in a 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 23. On Oct. 25, he stopped 29 shots through overtime and three of five shootout attempts as Colorado defeated the Buffalo Sabres, 2-1, in a shootout. THIRD STAR – MARIAN HOSSA, RW, DETROIT RED WINGS
Hossa tied for second among all scorers with six points (three goals, three assists) in three games as the Red Wings recorded three victories for the week. Hossa began the week by recording one assist in a 4-3 win over the St Louis Blues on Oct 22. On Oct. 24, he notched two goals and one assist as Detroit defeated the Atlanta Thrashers, 5-3. He finished the week by tallying one goal and one assist, as well as the shootout winner, in a 6-5 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 25. Hossa is tied for sixth in League scoring with 11 points (4-7--11) in eight games.
