Home opener festivities set to go

The Calgary Flames open their home schedule at the Pengrowth Saddledome with a Battle of Alberta as they host the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, October 7 at 8:00pm (MT).


As former Flames Head Coach Darryl Sutter steps upstairs as the General Manager, the Calgary Flames welcome last season's Flames assistant coach Jim Playfair as he steps behind the bench as the franchise's 12th head coach.

With a solid nucleus in place from last season, the Flames are pleased to introduce NHL veterans Alex Tanguay, Jeff Friesen, and Andrei Zyuzin, rookie Mark Giordano, as well as former Flames goaltender Jamie McLennan to the Flames faithful at the Pengrowth Saddledome on Saturday night.

Game time is 8:00pm (MT); doors will open at 6:00pm on Saturday, October 7. Fans are encouraged to be in your seats by 7:45pm as the opening ceremonies begin, including the unveiling of the 2005-06 Northwest Division Championship Banner.

The Molson Canadian Tailgate Party will be take place from 6-8pm outside Dutton's Lounge on the west tarmac featuring live music from 20/20, food and beverage specials and lots more.

Glowing "C" red necklaces will be given out to the first 15,000 fans courtesy of Pengrowth Management.

Fans are also encouraged to bring your camera and take your photo with Miikka Kiprusoff's Vezina and Jennings trophies in section 211 after the start of the game.

Due to other events taking place at Stampede Park, fans are asked to arrive early or take public transit to avoid delays.
