CALGARY, AB -- The Red Deer Rebels have acquired Calgary Flames prospect Brandon Hickey's WHL rights from the Tri-City Americans.

In exchange for Hickey's rights, Tri-City received a fifth round pick in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft and two conditional WHL Bantam picks.

Hickey is heading into his sophomore season at Boston University this fall. The Leduc, AB native helped the Terriers claim the Hockey East Championship, win the Beanpot Tournament, and go all the way to the final at the Frozen Four in his freshman season.

The 19-year-old defenceman scored six goals and 17 points in 41 games in 2014-15. Prior to his collegiate career, Hickey spent two seasons with the Spruce Grove Saints (AJHL).

The Flames drafted Hickey in the third round (64th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft. The blueliner was a fourth round (81st overall) pick in the 2011 Bantam Draft.
