HAMILTON, ON -- The Abbotsford Heat stumbled in their first outing on a six-game road swing, falling 3-1 to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Wednesday night.
The Heat jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 8:56 mark of the opening period thanks to Chris Breen's marker. Sven Baertschi picked up an assist on the opening tally, extending his point streak to five games. He has three goals and seven points in that span.
The Bulldogs were able to find the equalizer late in the frame when Mike Blunden's shot eluded netminder Aaron Dell.
Christian Thomas gave the home team their first lead of the evening at 12:56 of the second period and in the third stanza, Gabriel Dumont converted on a penalty shot to ice the win for the Bulldogs.
Dell turned aside 36 of the 39 shots he faced while Hamilton goaltender Dustin Tokarski made 27 saves on 28 shots.
The Heat remain in second place in the West Division with a 34-23-5-2 record and 75 points.
