ABBOTSFORD, BC -- The Abbotsford Heat will look to avoid elimination against the Toronto Marlies (Toronto Maple Leafs) as they host Game 5 at the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre trailing 3-1 in the series. Tonight’s second game in less than 30 hours will be the final meeting between these two clubs in the Fraser Valley with Game 6 & 7 - if necessary - set to be played at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto.
Tuesday night saw the Heat put forth a near perfect tactical game, but the club fell 3-1 to an opportunistic Marlies club that was back-stopped by Ben Scirven’s 35 saves, and three third period goals from Greg Scott. The Heat outshot the visitors 10-3 after 20 minutes, 23-10 after two periods of play, and 36-17 on the night, but lost a game in which they heavily out-chanced the Marlies.
The Heat remain positive moving forward, and given how lopsided the game appeared at times on Tuesday night, they feel a similar effort will yield a better result.
When asked about Game 5 preparation, Ward stated, “Not much has to change. We did everything but score. We dominated the game 5-on-5 but we gave up some untimely goals. We just have to continue to get traffic and pucks to the net.”
Forward Ben Walter is also optimistic. “We are still confident as a group and we still believe we can win this series.” Stated the 28-year-old centre after the loss, “We just need to get a few bounces and win three in a row which we have done several times this year. It starts with a big effort tomorrow night.”
