Heat Home for Game 3 Tonight

by Staff Writer / Calgary Flames
Abbotsford BC - As the series shifts to the West, the Abbotsford Heat look to rebound from their first loss of the series, a 3-1 setback at the hands of the Hamilton Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs played with the lead for the first time in the series, and the change in their game play was profound.  Early in the game, the Bulldogs fore-checked intensely, employing two and sometimes forwards down behind the Heat goal to flush the puck out, and also having their defence pinch to create turnovers and chances in front of the Heat goal.  With the lead, the Bulldogs cut back on their fore-check and employ a 1-3-1 diamond style trap in the neutral zone.  The Bulldogs want to take away the Heat's ability to dump the puck into the Bulldogs zone, so they take two of the three in their trap and converge on the Heat player trying to dump the puck in, looking for the turnover.  The Heat has to make smart plays thru the neutral zone.  Good, quick passes and identifying the weak points in the Bulldogs zone defence will allow Abbotsford to find success in the Bulldog zone.

The Heat will look to make a couple of roster changes.  Tyler Spurgeon looks to be out after taking an elbow to the face in the second period, courtesy of Mike Glumac.  There is no timetable for Spurgeon's return.  Staffan Kronwall may also be sidelined, thanks to another flying elbow to the back of his head in to the boards, this time thanks to Bulldog forward Ryan White.  It is unclear how long Kronwall will be sidelined with his injury.

Andy Delmore was re-inserted into the lineup.  Delmore, who had been sidelined for the past month with an upper body injury, was pressed into service with the Kronwall injury.  Forward Lance Bouma also made his AHL debut in Game Two.
