by Staff Writer / Calgary Flames

ROCHESTER, NY -- The Abbotsford Heat tied the game in the third period to force overtime, but lost 3-2 to the Rochester Americans (AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres) in the sixth round of a shootout at the Blue Cross Arena on Tuesday night.

Dustin Sylvester had a goal and an assist, and Barry Brust’s regulation undefeated streak was extended to nine games. The Heat took three of a possible four points on their road trip to remain in top spot in the AHL with 34 points in 24 games.

After a scoreless first period, the Americans took the lead at 7:47 of the second period. Less than four minutes later, Sylvester tied the game on the power play with his sixth goal of the season. The Americans regained the lead 2-1 later in the second period on a goal by Luke Adam.

Paul Byron tied the game for the Heat at 7:42 of the third period, assisted by Sylvester. The Heat failed to score on six shootout attempts after a scoreless overtime period.

Brust stopped 29 of 31 shots in the game and five of six shootout attempts. David Leggio also stopped 29 of 31 shots, and all six Heat shootout attempts.

The Heat killed off Rochester’s 3 power plays and were one for five on the man advantage.

The Heat return home for a weekend series against the Texas Stars (AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars), featuring a 2-for-1 ticket deal.
