GIO'S ALL-STAR BLOG - DAY 1

The captain checks in from St. Louis

by MARK GIORDANO @MarkGio05 / CalgaryFlames.com

Hey guys! Ritter, Chucky and myself have all arrived in St. Louis and we are ready to get the All-Star Weekend underway.

I've been fortunate enough to be a part of two All-Star events before, in Columbus in 2015 and in Nashville in 2016. I attended both of those with Johnny and I'm glad I'm able to share this year's festivities with teammates as well - it always makes a special event more memorable.

It's really special this year because of how much this event means to the Tkachuk family. When Matthew and I first heard we were named All-Stars this year, he was thrilled. Not only is it his first appearance but to have it happen in his hometown? It's extremely meaningful not only to him but to Keith, Chantal, Brady, and Taryn, as well as their extended family. And now having both Tkachuks participate makes it even more special. I'm sure we'll be seeing both of them make multiple All-Star appearances throughout their careers.

Today was media day in St. Louis, doing everything from interviews about the All-Star Skills Competition and Game to chatting about how our season is going. Keep an eye on Flames TV, who are on-site and captured a ton of video this evening.

I'll check back in tomorrow after the Skills Competition! It's always fun to watch the events and this year, the NHL has added the 3-on-3 women's game between the USA and Canada - cannot wait to watch and cheer on our Canadians!
