CALGARY, AB -- Calgary Flames Captain Mark Giordano and the Calgary Italian Open will tee off tomorrow, Wednesday, September 3rd, in benefit of two local charities.

“It is an honour to be supported by not only the Calgary community but also by Calgary’s Italian community through the Italian Open Golf Tournament. Funds from this tournament will be directed to the Calgary Italian Canadian Foundation which will assist Italian-Canadians living in Calgary with educational resources,” said Mark Giordano. “It will also really help with mine and my wife, Lauren's, charitable program called Points to the Future which will refurbish supplies in Calgary schools such as phys’ed equipment, hockey nets, sticks, jerseys, etc., and school equipment. With your help our goal is to direct $100,000 in supplies to schools this year.”
Carlo Plava, Italian Open Organizing Committee Chair adds, “We are excited to have Mark involved in our tournament for the first time and we look forward to working with Mark and Lauren in supporting their cause and that of the Calgary Italian Canadian Foundation.”

Team Giordano Points to the Future - supporting Calgary schools in need through the Calgary School Board, this program will assist, replenish and support schools in Calgary that are in need of healthy lifestyle tools such as new gym supplies, learning supplies, and learning technology.
Calgary Italian Canadian Foundation (CICF) - The CICF is a not-for-profit organization raising funds for projects directed towards assessing and meeting the needs of Calgary’s Italian-Canadian community. Funds raised by the CICF will be used to develop academic chairs and lectureship in Italian at the post-secondary level and to fund scholarships and bursaries for Italian-Canadian students in academics, athletics, and the performing arts, as well as building housing and related facilities for the care and rehabilitation of seniors and people with special needs. Since 2002, the Italian Open has raised over $400,000 and supported the following charities and organizations: Calgary Italian School, Calgary Italian Sportsmen's and Sportwomen’s Dinners, Inn from the Cold, Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada – West, Kids Help Phone, KidSport, Red Cross Alberta Flood Relief Fund and the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Center
