Gingerbread houses for charity

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames Better Halves, members of the media and Good Earth Cafes are teaming up in a charity gingerbread house making contest on December 1st, 2010.

When: Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Time: 10 AM to 11:30 AM

Where: Bankers Hall - Main Level Lobby 315, 8th Ave SW

"We are thrilled to have the Flames Better Halves join us and volunteer their gingerbread house building expertise. The ladies contribution of time and support makes a real difference in the lives of our local Habitat families," says Sandi Ferchau, Fundraising Events Manager. "Community partners such as the Better Halves will help build affordable housing for our families."

The contest will kick off a fundraising campaign which ends December 31st for Habitat for Humanity. Gingerbread cookies will be sold at all Calgary Good Earth Cafes for $6.25 with $1.00 benefitting Habitat for Humanity during this time period.

The Flames Better Halves, players' wives and girlfriends, are active participants in fundraising initiatives for the Flames charitable arm; the Flames Foundation for Life as well as volunteers with various organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House, Alberta Children's Hospital and Impact Society. Many of the Better Halves participated in a Charity Women Build for Habitat for Humanity on November 16th, 2010 in New Brighton.

Habitat for Humanity Calgary is a non-profit organization working for a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. The organization is part of a worldwide network that spans 93 countries, which has built over 300,000 homes.
