CALGARY, AB -- For a second consecutive month, Calgary Flames prospect Jon Gillies has been named Hockey East's Goaltender of the Month.
The 20-year-old got the start in all five games Providence played in December, going 4-1-0 and registering a 1.41 GAA and a .949 save percentage. Gillies stopped 130 of the 137 shots he faced in December and allowed a mere three even strength goals last month.
He also picked up his fourth shutout of the season in December, blanking Vermont and helping the Friars capture the 2014 Catamount Cup on Dec. 29.
Gillies has a 11-6-1 record through 18 games this season with a 1.86 GAA and a .938 save percentage.
The Flames drafted Gillies in the third round (75th overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft. He is in the midst of his junior year at Providence College.
