Gillies, Jankowski, Gilmour & Providence to play for national championship

by Torie Peterson / Calgary Flames

It took 30 years for Providence College to get back to the Frozen Four and they weren't ready to go home after the semi-final.

In their first appearance at the tournament since 1985, the Friars downed Nebraska-Omaha 4-1 on Thursday afternoon at the TD Garden in Boston and will play in Saturday's championship game.

Mark Jankowski scored the game-winning goal in the second period with a quick move in tight, pulling the puck out of the reach of Nebraska-Omaha goaltender Ryan Massa and tossing the puck over top of him.

Jankowski, who was drafted by Calgary in the first round of the 2012 NHL Draft, also assisted on the Friars third goal, coming off of Trevor Mingoia's stick at the 11:10 mark of the third stanza.

Defenceman John Gilmour, the Flames seventh round selection in 2013, finished off the night with a plus-one rating.

Jon Gillies, the Flames third round pick in 2012, made 25 saves in the win.
