PITTSBURGH, PA -- Calgary Flames prospects Johnny Gaudreau and Jon Gillies were recognized by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) on Friday night at the Frozen Four in Pittsburgh.
Gaudreau was named to the AHCA All-America East first-team while Gillies was named to the All-America East second-team, adding to each player's respective pile of individual awards for their performance over the course of the 2012-13 season.
Gaudreau was a Hat Trick Hobey Baker finalist, Hockey East's Player of the Year, earned the Leonard Fowle Award as the New England's Most Valuable Player, snagged the Herb Gallagher Award as New England's best forward and was a unanimous All-Hockey East first-team selection and was a Hockey East weekly award winner on multiple occasions. He also captured a gold medal with the USA at the 2013 World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia.
Gillies, a true freshman at Providence College this past year, list of awards is just as impressive; he is the HCA National Div. I Rookie of the Year, the Hockey East Rookie of the Year, a First-Team Hockey East All-Star and a part of the Hockey East All-Rookie Team, the College Hockey News Rookie of the Year, part of the All-College Hockey News Second Team and the College Hockey News All-Rookie Team, the New England Hockey Writers Association George C. Carens Award winner, a New England Hockey Writers Association Div. I All-Star, Walter Brown Award Semifinalist and earned numerous Hockey East weekly awards. Like Gaudreau, Gillies was also a part of the USA team that won gold at the 2013 World Junior Championships.
