CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames are looking forward to hosting the Crowchild Classic at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday, February 7th, 2013. The annual contest will feature the women’s and men’s hockey teams from the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University in a game to award the coveted Crowchild Classic medal.
The classic will feature double header games:

“We are very proud to be supporters of all three post secondary schools in our city,” said Flames President & CEO Ken King. “The Crowchild Classic is a fun and competitive way to enhance school spirit. We are thrilled to welcome all students and athletes from the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University men’s and women’s hockey teams to the Scotiabank Saddledome for what will be great hockey in this new Calgary rivalry.”
Tickets for the game will be available through the U of C and MRU athletics office as well as through Calgary Flames customer service at 403-777-4646 on Friday, January 18th. Tickets are free of charge but are required for entry. The Crowchild Classic was initiated in 2012 to mark the first year of CIS sports competition between Mount Royal University and the University of Calgary. The coveted 'medal' is a 68-kg cast-iron City of Calgary manhole cover.
The Calgary Flames are proud supporters of the three post secondary institutes in Calgary through the Flames Foundation for Life. Each post secondary institute’s men’s and women’s hockey teams receive an annual $20,000 donation.
