Flames to co-sponsor Lethbridge College’s 32nd annual golf tournament

by Staff Writer / Calgary Flames

LETHBRIDGE, AB -- Lethbridge College is pleased to announce that the Calgary Flames will co-sponsor the college’s 32nd annual golf tournament with Avison Young Lethbridge Inc. This partnership means the greatest game ever invented (according to Arnold Palmer) will get a huge boost from one of the best teams playing Canada’s game.

“This is an exciting new partnership both for the college and for the Flames,” says Lethbridge College President and CEO Dr. Paula Burns. “The golf tournament brings the community together for 18 holes of long drives, great putts and many good times in between, all while supporting Kodiaks Athletics and student awards. We are very grateful to the Flames for their support of this important – and fun – annual event.”

The tournament will be held Sept. 3 at the Lethbridge Country Club. Proceeds from the day go toward the college’s athletics programs and student awards, which ensure that those seeking a post-secondary education will have the support needed to achieve their life-changing goals.

As a co-sponsor of the event, the Flames will be involved in a number of ways. Flames’ alumni – including Jim "Bearcat" Murray – will be out on the links, and there will be chances to win Flames tickets and prizes throughout the day. In addition, for the first time, there will be a three-item live auction before the dinner held at the end of the tournament. The first two items will be locally focused – including items from the Lethbridge College Kodiaks as well as some great local golfing opportunities. The live auction will conclude with the Flames’ package, which includes registration for four to the Flames Foundation Golf Tournament on Sept. 15.

“The Calgary Flames are proud to be involved with the 32nd annual Lethbridge College Golf Tournament,” says Rollie Cyr, vice president of sales, ticket operations and customer service, Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation. “We are proud of our long-standing commitment to southern Alberta and we are very excited about our recent initiative with respect to the Calgary Sports and Entertainment scholarships for Lethbridge College. Lethbridge has supported the Calgary Flames for many years. This event is a great opportunity for us to give back to this community and to support Lethbridge College at the same time.”

This isn’t the first time the Calgary Flames have shown its support of Lethbridge College students. Earlier this year, Lethbridge College was named as one of the institutions whose students were eligible to receive the new Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation Scholarships for post-secondary students in rural Alberta from the Flames Foundation for Life. This year’s Lethbridge College scholarship recipients will be recognized at the golf tournament.

Lethbridge College’s Golf Tournament is the longest-running charity golf event in southern Alberta. The event has raised more than $200,000 to support student athletes and student awards over the last 32 years.

There are still a few slots left for those interested in playing in this September. To register or for more information about the tournament, contact Jay Dobson, the college’s events and stewardship coordinator, at 403.320.3496 or by email at
