Season series: Calgary Flames defenceman TJ Brodie scored at 4:58 of overtime to defeat the Boston Bruins in their earlier game at Scotiabank Saddledome. The Flames rallied from a 3-0 deficit on the strength of two third-period goals from forward Jiri Hudler.

Flames team scope: Goalie Karri Ramo will start his fifth straight, according to Sportsnet. Forward Matt Stajan was expected to rejoin the team Wednesday after his wife gave birth to their son. With captain Mark Giordano out for the rest of the season, coach Bob Hartley chose to name defenceman Dennis Wideman as an additional alternate captain. "I'm very proud to be able to name 'Wides' an alternate captain because I think he's grown a lot," Hartley said in comments tweeted by the team. Homecoming week continues for Flames rookie Johnny Gaudreau, who at this time last year was playing at Boston College. Gaudreau grew up in southern New Jersey as a Philadelphia Flyers fan and on Tuesday assisted on the winning goal by Hudler as the Flames defeated the Flyers 3-2 in overtime. "It's pretty special for me," Gaudreau said according to NJ Advance Media. "We're fighting for a playoff spot and to be a part of that overtime goal in Philly, it was just really exciting for me."

Bruins team scope: Forward Brett Connolly, acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning prior to the NHL Trade Deadline, sustained a fractured finger when he was hit by a puck in practice Wednesday and will miss six weeks, according to the Bruins. Forward Maxime Talbot, traded by the Colorado Avalanche to Boston, was the right wing on the fourth line with center Chris Kelly and left wing Daniel Paille. "He's always in the right frame of mind when he comes to the rink and he's hard to out-work on the ice," defenceman Torey Krug, who trained with Talbot during the summer, said in comments tweeted by the team. Defenceman Adam McQuaid practiced after taking a maintenance day Tuesday. Forward Gregory Campbell, who has missed the past three games with an upper-body injury, took light contact but is doubtful.
