Stone Signing

The Flames have signed defenceman Michael Stone to a one-year, two-way contract worth an AAV of $750,000.
Stone has spent the last five-and-a-half seasons in Calgary, skating in 180 games while scoring 11 goals and 38 points. He's also appeared in 13 playoff games with the Flames, including nine in 2022, where he put up five points (2G, 3A) and averaged 13:02 in ice time.
"Happy to be done. Happy to be here," said Stone, who was attending Flames training camp on PTO. "That's what I've wanted all along, so here we are.
"I've treated it like I treat every year, I guess. It's not a new situation for me, so [I wanted to] come in, play well and whatever happens, happens. I'm happy the way it worked out the way it did."

Stone appeared in five preseason games for the Flames, finishing in a tie for first in team scoring with Blake Coleman with three goals and four points. The 32-year-old added 18 shots on goal as he showcased his world-famous, 100-plus mile-per-hour slapshot.
"I think I did what I needed to do," Stone said. But there's always room for growth, so that's what we're going to keep building towards and never be satisfied. Let's move on and look for a big win here first game of the year.
"Everybody wants to play. If I can keep doing what I'm doing and building my game, I'll look to be a regular and that's the plan for me anyway. We'll see how everything goes. As long as you're playing well, I don't think there will be an issue."

"I love this city and I love this team"

Throughout this entire process, Stone showed an unwavering commitment to the Flames organization and the city of Calgary.
And he's thrilled he gets to continue his career where he and his family call home.
"I believe in this team," Stone said. "I think we have a great group here. The obvious answer would be that my family is here. But if it wasn't going to work out here, then my family is good wherever we end up. But I love this city, I love this team and I wanted to be a part of it. I think we can do some good things here."
