FLAMES SIGN GOALTENDER LELAND IRVING

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today the signing of prospect goaltender Leland Irving.  As per club policy, terms and conditions of the deal were not disclosed.

Irving, Calgary’s first pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, is playing in his 3rd season with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League. He is currently 1st in the WHL in goals against average (1.57), save percentage (0.937%), and second in shutouts (6).

The native of Barrhead, Alberta, was part of Team Canada’s National Junior team that captured gold at the 2007 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

In 114 career WHL games, the 6’0”, 176 lbs goaltender has recorded 65 wins, 12 shutouts, and has a career goals against average of 1.82.
