Flames return home to face Rangers, look to snap skid

by Staff Writer / Calgary Flames

RANGERS (14-10-4) at FLAMES (17-13-2)

Season series: The New York Rangers and Calgary Flames split two games in 2013-14, with the home team winning each time. Karri Ramo made 38 saves for the Flames in their 4-3 victory against the Rangers on March 28, the most recent game between the teams.

Rangers team scope: New York is going for a three-game sweep of Western Canada after beating the Vancouver Canucks 5-1 on Saturday and the Edmonton Oilers 2-0 on Sunday. The Rangers have won three in a row and five of seven. Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who stopped all 16 shots he faced in Edmonton, was named the Third Star for last week after going 3-0-0 and allowing a total of four goals, a 1.30 goals-against average. New York will again be without center Derick Brassard, who was sent home before the game in Edmonton after he was diagnosed with the mumps.

Flames team scope: Calgary is back home after a frustrating 0-4-0 road trip that ended with a 2-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday. The Flames have lost five in a row and scored eight goals in that stretch, though they outshot the opposition in the first four of those losses and were tied or within a goal late in the third period of all five. "Good efforts don't win in this league," defenseman Kris Russell said after the loss in Chicago. "You've got to have the effort. You've got to have the execution. You've got to win the second and third battles and you've got to get the second and third opportunities at their net, and we didn't do that [Sunday]. Going back home we've got to turn this thing around."
