ISLANDERS (25-11-1) at FLAMES (21-15-3)
TV: SN1, MSG+ 2
Season series: The Calgary Flames won each game against the New York Islanders last season. Forward Joe Colborne had two goals and an assist. Islanders defenceman Thomas Hickey had a goal and an assist.
Islanders team scope: Closing out the New Year with a 5-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets, New York’s 25 wins lead the Eastern Conference and tie them with the Chicago Blackhawks for most in the NHL. It also places the Islanders in a tie for the Metropolitan Division lead with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Islanders, who play their second of a seven-game road trip against the Flames, have 11 wins on the road. "We play a loose, confident game on the road, not that we [don’t] at home," said forward Anders Lee, whose team has six wins in the past eight games. "It's just you. You're against the crowd and against the home team. You just kind of grind it out together and play a simple game." New York won’t return to Nassau Coliseum until Jan. 19.
Flames team scope: After ending an eight-game winless streak prior to the Christmas break, Calgary has rattled off four straight victories, including a 4-3 overtime win against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, their league-leading eighth win when trailing after 40 minutes. “Each intermission we came in we were down but we just had a good feeling in this dressing room,” said forward Josh Jooris, who scored the game winner. "No one was down and it wasn’t quiet in here. We were upbeat. It was a positive energy around the room. We just didn't think we were going to lose this game so we came out hard and just stuck to our game tonight."
