by Staff Writer / Calgary Flames

CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames are pleased to host Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Night taking place on Monday, January 11th, 2016 at the Flames game against the San Jose Sharks.

For the tenth consecutive year, the Flames will welcome over 550 Canadian Armed Forces members, family members and veterans to the game which will honour them for their services with the Canadian Armed Forces.

“It’s a true privilege and honour for us to host members of our Canadian Armed Forces at the Scotiabank Saddledome again this season,” said Flames President & CEO Ken King. “We also welcome Reservists who volunteer their time to train as soldiers as well as work regular jobs during the day. Each year this appreciation night grows larger and we thank all our season ticket holders who also donate their tickets for this very special evening. On behalf of our entire organization, thank you…thank you...thank you for your sacrifice and continued commitment to providing us a country where we feel safe, protected and enjoy all the liberties of freedom.”

This year, to mark the tenth consecutive year of Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Night at the Saddledome, we will be honouring Reservists from the Canadian Armed Forces. These are local Calgarians, who have day jobs, but volunteer and train to become soldiers. The ceremonial puck drop will take place with Canadian Armed Forces Chief of Reserves and Cadets, Major General Paul Bury, along with reservists Warrant Officer Andrew MacAlister, and Able Seaman Sam Whitehead.

“Support Our Troops” merchandise will be on-sale on the concourse in Section 223 & The Chrysler Club. The Flames will also be selling commemorative Reebok Calgary Flames military caps with all proceeds to be directed to “Support Our Troops”. All Canadian Armed Forces members in uniform will receive a 25% discount at all FanAttic locations at the Scotiabank Saddledome and 10% off cresting, jerseys, and memorabilia. Parking fees will also be waived for all military personnel attending the game.

The Flames Foundation will also donate a portion of the proceeds from the evening’s 50/50 sales to the Military Families Fund.

“I wish to thank the Calgary Flames for their loyal support to all members of the Canadian Armed Forces,” said General Jonathan Vance, Chief of the Defence Staff. “Canada’s military has kept a special relationship with Calgarians for decades and in recent years, the Flames have played a noteworthy role in maintaining it. This special tribute offered by the Flames’ organization and the fans’ support is something for which we are always grateful.”

Following the conclusion of the game, uniformed military personnel will be welcomed onto the ice where they will receive the opportunity to have a post-game group photo. In addition, the majority of in-game elements will have a distinct Canadian Armed Forces tie-in, Flames players will be donning camouflage jerseys during pre-game warm-ups and will adorn a yellow ribbon helmet decal in honour of those who serve this country.
