by Staff Writer / Calgary Flames

CALGARY, AB – The “C of Red” will become the “C of Red and White” this week as the Calgary Flames will honor three Olympic members of their hockey club and members of Team Canada who competed in other sports at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

“We are truly honored to share in this expression of national pride by celebrating the success of our wonderful young athletes at our games this week,” said Flames President & CEO Ken King.  “We are so proud of both the performance of our Canadian athletes on a whole and of our Flames players, in Vancouver over the past 17 days.”
On Wednesday, March 3rd, a special pre-game ceremony is planned to recognize the achievements of Gold Medal winner Jarome Iginla and Bronze Medal winners Miikka Kiprusoff and Niklas Hagman.

A video montage on the Enmax Energy Board will recollect their Olympic journey that ended in a podium finish for all three Flames. Their medals will be present on-ice as the players stand with their country’s flags. Following the ceremony, the medals will be on display on the main concourse.
A proud group of Canadian athletes returned home donning medals as Team Canada established a new Winter Olympic Games gold medal record count with 14 trips to the podium.

In total, Canadians won 26 medals placing 3rd among all countries for podium appearances.

To recognize this amazing accomplishment, on Friday, March 5th, the Flames will host and honor members of Team Canada. An on-ice pre-game ceremony will reintroduce you to our champions and provide Calgary fans with another opportunity to demonstrate their patriotism as Canadians.
Fans are asked to be in their seats early as the ceremonies will begin prior to the opening face-off.

Game dates and start times are below:

Wednesday, March 3rd vs. the Minnesota Wild - 8:00 P.M.

Friday, March 5th vs. the New Jersey Devils - 7:00 P.M.
