Flames Foundation and RONA to re-open community rink

by Staff Writer / Calgary Flames

CALGARY, AB – RONA, Canada’s largest distributor and retailer of hardware, renovation and gardening products, in partnership with The Calgary Flames Foundation for Life and the NHLPA Goals and Dreams fund, will reveal the newly refurbished Whitehorn Community Association Rink on Thursday.

To mark the official unveiling of the facility, representatives from both organizations will be on hand as will Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi. Community members and students from the surrounding three schools will also be treated to an autograph session from two current members of the Calgary Flames.

RONA and The Calgary Flames Foundation For Life invested over $60,000 to modernize and substantially upgrade the outdoor rink, which is located next to the Whitehorn Community Centre. RONA employees and members of The Calgary Flames devoted many hours working as volunteers to make the rink good as new, including laying new asphalt, upgrades to the lighting system, complete replacement of the rinkboards and painting the storage space for equipment.

The three surrounding schools—Colonel J. Fred Scott School, École St. Wilfrid School and Annie Gale School utilize the Whitehorn Community Association Rink year-round as part of their physical education curriculum.
The Whitehorn Community Association Rink is located at 228 Whitehorn Road NE, Calgary. The unveiling will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
