The Flames quest for the Stanley Cup has ended.
Calgary got off to a great start Thursday night with three straight goals in the first period, but the Dallas Stars scored five goals in the second period en route to a 7-3 victory.
They prevailed in 4-2 in this Stanley Cup playoffs opening-round series.

The Flames came out swarming in the opening stanza.
Early on in the first few minutes, TJ Brodie tipped a puck and and skated it out of the Flames zone, passing to a driving Sam Bennett who got a shot on Anton Khudobin.
Moments later, the puck was centred from behind the net where Milan Lucic got a whack at it.
Not long after, Johnny Gaudreau gained the zone and fed a pinching Erik Gustafsson whose solid shot was also denied.
Brodie set up the game's first goal at 3:42, snapping a point shot that Andrew Mangiapane tipped in heavy traffic.
The Flames got their first powerplay at 4:49, the pressure paying off when Gaudreau's shot from behind the goal-line went off the skate of Khudobin as he flailed in his crease.
Rasmus Andersson made it 3-0 just 56 seconds later, skating into the zone and taking a pass from Tobias Rieder and snapping a perfect wrister low, far-side past Khudobin. It was his third of the post-season.
Milan Lucic was whistled not long after for goaltender interference. Miro Heiskanen made them pay with his third goal of the series at 9:36.
Brodie kept up his jump and pinched to set up the Flames next chance, keeping the puck in the Stars zone before Gaudreau skated around the net, trying for a wrap-around, but Khudobin got his left pad on it.
Gaudreau had another similar chance after off a feed by Gustafsson but couldn't find twine again.
Denis Gurianov made it a one-goal game just 59 seconds into the second period. His wrister went over the head of Joe Pavelski as he stood up after a hit and screened Cam Talbot.
Pavelski then tied it up at 3:25.
Coach Geoff Ward sent David Rittich into the pipes after, his first action of the post-season.
Lucic was sent off for delay of game after putting the puck over the the glass to give the Stars a chance for their first lead of the contest.
Mark Jankowski hit the post on a short-handed chance but once Dallas reset, Gurianov took a shot that Rittich saved, but Radek Faksa put it home for the Stars first lead of the game.
Pavelski then made it 5-3 at 7:22.
Gurianov got his hat-trick at 15:30 to put some distance.
Talbot started the third.
Gurianov added another in the third to round out the scoring.
