CALGARY, AB -- Despite rumors that they have nailed down an individual for the job, the Calgary Flames search for a new head coach continues.
"There was a rumour that we had the chute down this week, that we had already hired someone," general manager Jay Feaster said on Wednesday. "That’s clearly not the case.
"We’re in the first inning of a nine-inning baseball game, if you will."
Feaster is in the preliminary stages of his search. At the moment, he's compiling a list of capable candidates that will be available this summer. He has also been taking calls from both coaches and agents regarding the position.
"We’re putting those names on a master list," Feaster said. "And then John Weisbrod, Craig Conroy and I will narrow that down probably to about five or six people we would like to pursue and have conservations with."
Feaster, Weisbrod and Conroy will be taking their time as they sift through candidates, not wanting to rush into the decision.
"We’re not going to set an artificial time frame or deadline on it. We want to make sure it’s a thorough and exhaustive process.
"There’s no rush to get that done right now."
