The Flames Better Halves, wives and girlfriends of the Calgary Flames players, have launched a special Christmas initiative for the 2007 holiday season with a limited edition tree ornament. The group has been active in the Calgary community since the club’s arrival in 1980 and has been behind numerous fundraising events during that period.
This holiday season the Flames Better Halves have partnered with Coca-Cola and will be selling their 3rd limited edition Calgary Flames ornament. Only 2,000 of these adorable ceramic ornaments will be available on the Pengrowth Saddledome concourse during the December 4th & 6th games for $15 each with all proceeds to benefit Rotary / Flames House.
Rotary / Flames House will be Alberta’s first free standing pediatric hospice and respite centre for terminally ill children. The hospice will be specifically designed to support children and families throughout a child’s illness. The centre will be located adjacent to the Alberta Children’s Hospital and will have seven patient rooms, therapeutic activity areas and a classroom.
The Better Halves will also be raffling off a Christmas tree each evening that is fully decorated with red and gold ornaments as well as having a team set of 23 individually autographed ornaments. Raffle tickets are $5 each.
The Calgary Flames family consisting of ownership, staff, partners, players and wives is more commonly referred to as the Flames Foundation for Life. In the history of the Calgary Flames, the organization has donated over $29 million to various charities in Calgary and Southern Alberta.
