Flames announce 2008-09 home opener

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Flames announced today the home opener for the 2008-09 season will be on Saturday, October 11th against the Vancouver Canucks at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

The Flames will open up the 2008-09 campaign on the road in Vancouver at General Motors Place on Thursday, October 9th in the first game of the home and home series.

With the new NHL scheduling format, all teams will play eight less conference games and eight more out of conference games. The Flames are pleased to announce they will play a home and home series with Eastern Conference opponents’ Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators as part of the new format next season.

Saturday, December 27          vs. OTTAWA                  8:00 PM

Monday, February 9                  vs. MONTREAL            7:00 PM

In addition to the home and home with the three Eastern Conference Canadian teams, the Flames will play all the remaining 12 Eastern Conference teams once, home or away.

The entire 2008-09 NHL schedule will be released on Thursday, July 17th.
