Flames acquire defenceman David Hale

by Staff Writer / Calgary Flames

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced Tuesday the acquisition of defenceman David Hale and a 5th round draft pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a 3rd round draft pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Hale Bio and Stats

"To be quite honest after we made the (Craig) Conroy deal and the (Brad) Stuart and (Wayne) Primeau deal, we weren''t really heavy anywhere," commented Sutter to a room full of local media. "We were not going to delete, and I said it before, I like our players and I wasn''t going to delete players."

A native of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Hale is in his third NHL season. He has played in 43 games this season and has played 146 career NHL games all with the New Jersey Devils.

"He''s a stay at home type defenceman. I think the two things that we looked at were they had to be under contract or restricted players who not only have experience in the league, but a good system of winning," added Sutter.

"I think that what we wanted to do is what we did, to identify, which we did prior and then to find a defenceman that could fit into our group."

Originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils as their first round selection (22nd overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Hale was drafted out of the University of North Dakota (WCHA).
