THE MATCH-UP

Tonight's game is the first of two meetings between the Flames and Washington Capitals. In last year's season series, the Flames were 0-2-0 against Washington. Nine players had one point against the Capitals in 2016-17: Mikael Backlund, Troy Brouwer, Sean Monahan, Alex Chiasson, Deryk Engelland, Michael Frolik, Johnny Gaudreau, Kris Versteeg, and Matthew Tkachuk.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS VS. WASHINGTON

As a member of the New York Islanders, Travis Hamonic recorded his 100th NHL point against Washington on Feb. 21, 2015.

Jaromir Jagr's 1300th NHL point came against the Capitals on Mar. 5, 2004. He also surpassed the 1500-point mark against Washington on Feb. 10, 2007. He was a member of the New York Rangers for both milestones.

GO JOHNNY GO

Gaudreau is off to an incredible start to the season, notching 13 points in his first 11 skates and averaging 1.18 points-per-game. His three goals and 10 assists makes him the Flames' leading scorer and currently has him sitting 13th in NHL scoring. Gaudreau also leads the Flames in power play points (5) and multi-point games (3).

THE FAB FIVE

The line of Tkachuk, Backlund and Frolik and the pairing of Mark Giordano and Dougie Hamilton have been the Flames' top Corsi leaders since last season - an trend that has carried on this year. The five skaters are all in the top six in the NHL's SAT% (Corsi), with only Jagr ahead of them with a team-leading 58.43 SAT%. Making their run even more impressive is the fact that most of their zone starts are in the defensive zone.

INJURY REPORT

Jaromir Jagr is day-to-day with a lower body injury.

The Capitals have four players sidelined with injuries: Brett Connolly (upper body), Andre Burakovsky (upper body), Tyler Gravoc (upper body), and Matt Niskanen (upper body).
