Fast Facts - Flames @ Islanders

Notes ahead of tonight's game in Brooklyn

by Torie Peterson @ToriePeterson /

The Calgary Flames and New York Islanders will face off twice this year, with tonight's game opening the two-game season set. The Flames went 0-1-1 against the Islanders in the 2015-16 campaign. In their last 10 games against the Islanders, the Flames have a 3-6-1 record and in their last 10 visits to Long Island and Brooklyn, they hold a 5-5-0 record. Chad Johnson is the only player that has spent time in both organizations, playing for New York in the 2014-15 season. That year, he went 8-8-1 with a 3.08 GAA and a .889 save percentage.

Last night, the Flames scored two short-handed goals - a feat they have accomplished twice this season. Calgary leads the league in short-handed goals with five this year. Mikael Backlund, who had an assist on TJ Brodie's short-handed tally last night, is tied for the league-lead in short-handed points with three.

The Flames have been victorious in the majority of one-goal games they have played in this season, going 7-1-1 in one-goal games this year. On the current road tip, the Flames have been involved in two one-goal games, winning both: a 3-2 win in Detroit and a 2-1 victory in Boston.

Michael Frolik played in his 600th NHL game last night, becoming just the 46th Czech-born player to acheive this milestone. Mark Giordano, Dennis Wideman, Troy Brouwer, and Matt Stajan are the only other Flames who have played 600-plus games in the league.

Frolik leads the Flames in scoring with six goals and 14 points through 24 games. In his 600-game career, he has registered 116 goals, 165 assists and 281 points.

Dennis Wideman needs 4 goals for 100.

Johnny Gaudreau needs 6 assists for 100.

Tonight's game will start at 5:00 PM MT with Sportsnet West (TV) and Sportsnet 960 The FAN (radio) carrying the broadcasts. @NHLFlames will be live-tweeting the game and posting exlcusive content throughout the day.
