BUFFALO, NY -- The Moose is loose.
Brian Elliott will get the start tonight when the Calgary Flames take on the Buffalo Sabres at the KeyBank Center at 5:00 PM MT (SNW, FAN960).
The move comes ahead of the team's second game in as many nights and as many cities. Chad Johnson, who started the last four games, will back up Elliott in Buffalo.
"We looked at everything when we made our decision," head coach Glen Gulutzan said. "We've played a lot of hockey here, (Johnson) has had a real good go of it but at some point, you have to make sure you're doing the right things.
"We're real excited for (Elliott) to come in because he's a good goalie, we're in a back-to-back and this is a good time for him to come in and help us."
Elliott has faced the Sabres 13 times in his career, going 11-0-2 with a 1.68 GAA, a .943 save percentage and two shutouts in those contests.
In 11 games this year, Elliott has a 3-8-0 record with a 3.36 GAA and a .882 save percentage. The Flames acquired the netminder from the St. Louis Blues at the 2016 NHL Draft in exchange for a second round pick.
