Brian Elliott has been named the NHL's Third Star of the Week after posting a 3-0-0 record with a 1.95 GAA and a .926 save percentage.
"The more rewarding part is everybody coming together this time of year. As a goalie, you get a star like that, it's really a testament to how the team is playing," Elliott told CalgaryFlames.com.
"I'm happy to get it but it doesn't mean much right now. There's a lot more to look forward to."
The netminder kicked off the week with a 32-save performance in a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Mar. 13. He also turned aside every shot in the shootout. Elliott then made 24 stops in a 3-1 win against the Dallas Stars on Mar. 17. He closed out the week by making 19 saves in a 5-2 victory over the LA Kings on Mar. 19.
The win against the Kings was his 11th consecutive victory - tying a Mike Vernon (Jan. 17-Feb. 27, 1989) for the longest win streak in franchise history.
Elliott has a 23-13-3 record with a 2.46 GAA, .911 save percentage and two shutouts in 41 appearances this season, his first with the Flames.
