CALGARY, AB – RONA inc., the largest Canadian distributor and retailer of hardware, renovation and gardening products and the Flames Foundation for Life in partnership with ENMAX Corporation are honoured to present the refurbishing of the Southeast Dover outdoor rink.

The finished rink was officially unveiled today to the community of Dover and key stakeholders. RONA and The Flames Foundation for Life invested over $60,000 to modernize and substantially upgrade the outdoor rink, which is located next to the Dover Community Centre.

“This project is yet another way for RONA to bring its values and its passion for sports closer to home. Each and every smile, laugh and good time it will bring to this community is worth so much to us,” said Steve Leger, Regional Operations Manager at RONA.

In addition, ENMAX Corporation generously funded the upgrade to an LED lighting system, which uses considerably less power than traditional lights, reducing costs and carbon emissions associated with electricity generation. RONA employees and members of The Calgary Flames and ENMAX devoted many hours working as volunteers to make the rink good as new, including laying new asphalt, upgrades to the lighting system, complete replacement of the rink boards and painting.

“This is a Flames Foundation for Life project which not only gives back directly to the communities in Calgary but also influences the growth and supports the game of hockey for fans of all ages,” said Ken King, President and CEO of the Calgary Flames. “We are thrilled that our partnership with RONA has allowed us to play a part in the community of Dover.”

To mark the official unveiling of the facility, representative from both organizations were on hand including Calgary Flames Head Coach Bob Hartley. Community members and students from the neighbouring school were treated to an autograph session and giveaways.

This is the second annual project in the partnership. Last year the Whitehorn outdoor rink was upgraded and launched to the community in October 2011. Through various initiatives, the Calgary Flames Hockey Club and their charitable arm; the Flames Foundation for Life, continue to touch the lives of thousands of people through its commitment to education, medical research, health, amateur sports and recreation
