The Calgary Flames have teamed up again with United Way of Calgary and Area, Global Calgary and Market Mall to launch the 13th annual Gifts for Kids toy drive.
Gifts for Kids volunteers will collect new, unwrapped presents for kids aged infant to 18-years-old at Market Mall’s Bay Court until December 20, 2007.
“Gifts for Kids helps alleviate some of the stress felt by families by matching gifts with kids who would otherwise not feel the joy of unwrapping a present. Last year, Gifts for Kids saw over 13,000 gifts donated by Calgarians,” says Cory Sarich
, Calgary Flames defenseman and spokesperson for Gifts for Kids.
“Although my Calgary Flames teammates and I are involved in many charity activities I thought we would do something a little different this year. I have asked my teammates to make donations of up to $1,000 to Gifts for Kids and then I will match the amount of the donations. I hope we can put smiles on many of the children’s’ faces.”
In November and December, the gifts are distributed to agencies that then redistribute them via hampers and parties to clients who celebrate a variety of religious and holiday events.
Calgarians can help make wishes come true by dropping off a new, unwrapped gift for kids up to 18-years-old at Bay Court in Market Mall before December 20. Gifts ideas are available at www.calgaryunitedway.org
, or on-site at Market Mall.
The Calgary Flames have been a partner of Gifts for Kids for three seasons now and are proud to be involved in such a wonderful cause at this special time of year.
The Flames Foundation for Life is the charitable arm of the Calgary Flames through which more than $29 million dollars in funding has already been directed to education, health, medical research, amateur sport and recreation.
The Calgary Flames have extended their commitment to the community through an exciting partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Calgary known as the “Rotary/Flames Gift to the Community” - a $10 million dollar donation to the community over the next five years!
