How hot are the Wranglers right now?
They are, in fact, they are the hottest team in the AHL, with a recent record of 8-1-1 in their last 10 games.
The offence has been lethal lately and the powerplay formidable. The Wranglers came into the week tied for the most goals scored in the league with 70, and possessing a powerplay which, currently at 29.3% efficiency, is best in the west.
Calgary continues to climb the standings at a vigorous pace, now sitting in third place in the Western Conference, two-points out of top spot.

OFFENCE CLICKING:

The offensive production provided by Matthew Phillips, Jakob Pelletier and Connor Zary has been stellar.
Phillips remains the name on everyone's lips this week, with his impressive play during the recent four-game homestand. He notched three goals and nine points in four games last week against Coachella Valley and Abbotsford. That earned the Calgary-kid an AHL Player of the Week nod. Phillips currently leads the league in scoring with 26 points (13g, 13a) in 18 games and has five powerplay goals, along with four game-winners, this season.
Pelletier and Zary have been 10/10's as well. Pelletier has been unstoppable lately, hitting the scoresheet in 10-straight games, racking up 17 points, (7g, 10a) in that span, while Zary has 11-points in his last 10 games, with 4 goals and seven assists.

FIRST LINE OF DEFENCE:

The defence recently received a boost from a familiar pair of bruising blueliners, with Nick DeSimone and Dennis Gilbert returning from their stints with the Flames. DeSimone has two goals and two assists since returning to the Wranglers, and Gilbert has played one game since being recalled, but fought three times in seven games with the big club, and adds an integral infusion of grit and strength into the lineup.
Oh and look out world, Jeremie Poirer is really starting to settle in.
The Flames third-round draft pick (No.72) in 2020 has six points (2g, 4A) in his last six games, including scoring the overtime winner against Abbotsford. Poirier currently leads all rookie defencemen in scoring with 15-points (3g,12A) in 18 games this season.
The goaltending in this recent stretch has been outstanding. Dustin Wolf now leads the league in goaltender wins with 10, with a 2.59 goals-against average (GAA) and a 0.915 save-percentage (Sv%). He has played the second-highest minutes of any goaltender in the league this season at 810:34.
Meanwhile, Oscar Dansk posted his first win with the Wranglers last week, making 28-saves against the Abbotsford Canucks on Nov. 25 and was named the Second Star of the game.
He admitted to feeling the nerves a little prior to the start.
"Excited and nervous … I think both," Dansk revealed.
"I felt better and better through the whole game. I think the guys played really well in front of me and made it simple for me and able to see the shots and make the appropriate reads. I'm really proud of the way we played."

ONE-TIMERS:

QUOTABLE:

Assistant coach Joe Cirella on Duehr:
"He uses his speed and uses his size, that's where he's effective. If he continues to do that he'll open eyes."
Kuznetsov on playing with D-partner, Nicolas Meloche:
"He's a really experienced guy. He doesn't make many mistakes on the ice and (I can) just really learn from him. I think we have pretty good chemistry. Just an awesome guy to be with on and off the ice, so it really helps me."
