Canada routs Sweden 7-3 at WJC evaluation camp

by Torie Peterson / Calgary Flames

CALGARY, AB -- A three-goal third period turned Canada's victory over Sweden into a rout on Thursday, picking up a 7-3 win over the Swedes in an exhibition tilt at Hockey Canada's National Junior Team summer development camp.

Frederik Gauthier notched Canada's first goal in the final frame, picking off a turnover in the Swedish zone and firing the puck past Jonas Johansson early in the period. A couple of minutes later, Calgary Flames 2013 first round pick Sean Monahan was able to capitalize on another turnover and Bo Horvat added Canada's seventh goal of the afternoon when he tipped an Anthony Mantha shot into the net at 7:36.

Matthew Finn, Connor McDavid and Kerby Rychel also scored for Canada. Sweden received goals from Carl Dahlstrom, Andre Burakovsky and Jacob de la Rose in the second period.

The win marked Canada's second victory in as many days as they were able to down Finland 5-3 on Wednesday.

The Canadians will play the USA on Saturday in Lake Placid, NY.
