The Flames made adjustments on Sunday, shuffling around skaters and goaltenders into two groups of relatively veteran players and another faction of younger players.
The moves allowed head coach Glen Gulutzan to get several of his regular players skating together and gave him a better look at prospects.
"I'm not as familiar as management is with this other group, insofar as some of the young players. I wanted to get them away so I could differentiate them a little bit better myself and get a better read because some of these guys are going to get some games," said Gulutzan.
As a result of the shuffling, lines and defence pairings were altered:

Group 1 (9:00 a.m. skate)

FORWARDS
Johnny Gaudreau - Sean Monahan - Micheal Ferland
Troy Brouwer - Mark Jankowski - Andrew Mangiapane
Joseph Cramarossa - Freddie Hamilton - Tanner Glass
Hunter Shinkaruk - Matt Stajan - Curtis Lazar
DEFENCE
TJ Brodie - Travis Hamonic
Brett Kulak - Michael Stone
Tyler Wotherspoon - Oliver Kylington

Group 2 (11:00 a.m. skate)

FORWARDS
Rod Pelley / Matthew Tkachuk - Mikael Backlund - Emile Poirier
Kris Versteeg - Sam Bennett - Spencer Foo
Morgan Klimchuk - Marek Hrivik - Michael Frolik
Luke Gazdic - Dillon Dube - Garnet Hathaway
DEFENCE
Mark Giordano - Dougie Hamilton
Juuso Valimaki - Rasmus Andersson
Matt Bartkowski - Josh Healey / Adam Ollas Mattsson
* Tkachuk left practice early and Pelley took his place on that line. As per Gulutzan, the move was precautionary.
"His hip was bugging him a little bit. We didn't want to go anywhere near it … like last year, we feel that we have managed a lot of the injuries pretty well and there's no need to see if that gets worse. No injury - just a precaution."

Group 3 (1:00 p.m. skate)

FORWARDS
Austin Carroll - Adam Ruzicka - Brett Pollock
Brad Morrison - Glenn Gawdin - Matthew Phillips
Sam Dove-McFalls - Mark Rassell - Hunter Smith
Brett Findley - Ben Hawerchuk - Daniel Maggio
DEFENCE
Kayle Doetzel - Dylan Olsen
Cliff Watson - Sam Ruopp
Tyson Helgesen - Oleg Yevenko
The Flames have three forwards in attendance but not skating: right wing Zach Fischer, left wing Joel Lowry and right wing Daniel Pribyl. All have been listed as injured.
Out of the three, Pribyl's injury is the most serious.
"I believe it's his ACL and he's going to be out for awhile," Gulutzan said.
