Calgary, AB – Calgary Hitmen Head Coach and General Manager Kelly Kisio announced today Dave Lowry has been promoted to Associate Head Coach. Lowry is entering his third season with the Hitmen after spending the previous two as an Assistant Coach.
“I’m excited that Dave will be back in an expanded role,” said Kisio. “He has done an outstanding job of developing our players, and we felt he should be recognized for his hard work.”
Lowry spent 19 seasons in the National Hockey League playing in 1084 career games before making the transition from NHL player to WHL Assistant Coach with the Hitmen in 2005-06.
The Hitmen have also announced Joel Otto will be returning for his second season as Hitmen Assistant Coach. Darcy Wakaluk also returns as the team’s Goaltending Coach while Brent Kisio has been hired as Video Coach / Assistant Coach.
Otto spent 14 seasons in the NHL and appeared in 943 regular season games with the Calgary Flames and Philadelphia Flyers.
Wakaluk is entering his fourth season with Hitmen. He played seven seasons in the NHL collecting 67 wins and nine shutouts.
Brent Kisio, the son of Kelly, recently graduated from the University of Nebraska-Omaha with a degree in criminology.
“I’m very excited about having my support staff return,” added GM and Head Coach Kelly Kisio. “They play such a large role in the success of our franchise.”
The Calgary Hitmen will open their 2007 Rookie Camp on Wednesday, August 29th with Main Camp scheduled to begin on Friday, August 31st.
