Brendan Morrison fishing derby

by Staff Writer / Calgary Flames

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames forward Brendan Morrison is proud to announce that he will again host the Tofino Saltwater Classic Fishing Derby to be held for the second consecutive year in Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, from July 16 - 17, 2011.

Open to 100 pre-registered participants, Tofino Saltwater Classic $250 entry fee includes a celebratory dinner and silent auction hosted by Brendan Morrison on July 16. Anglers will compete for up to $12,000 in cash prizes awarded in five categories: three largest Chinook salmon, largest Coho salmon and largest halibut. All fish must be caught on rod and reel in accordance with British Columbia's saltwater sport fishing regulations. The remainder of the entry fee proceeds, along with the proceeds from the silent auction, will support a number of Tofino community initiatives.

"In addition to being great fun for participants, last year's Saltwater Classic derby was a resounding success, raising more than $19,000 for Tofino's school programs and salmon enhancement projects," said Tofino Saltwater Classic Fishing Derby host, Brendan Morrison. "My family and I look forward to welcoming anglers from all over North America to the pristine waters around Tofino for this year's derby."

"We were very pleased to be one of the beneficiaries of last year's Tofino Saltwater Classic," said Brad Dusseault, Principal at Tofino's Wickaninnish Community School. "The $9,500 donation was used to support our healthy snack initiative as well as stock our in-classroom libraries with much needed new books and other teaching materials."

In its second year, the Tofino Saltwater Classic fishing derby was created by Brendan Morrison as a fundraiser for Tofino community initiatives. Participant entry forms and other information can be found at .
