Adrian Aucoin was out showing off the range of his physical prowess June 23, when for one night he traded in his stick and skates for a bat and pair of cleats.
The Calgary Vipers Baseball team invited the Flames blueliner between their lines to take part in pre-game festivities.
Aucoin took batting and fielding practice and took time to chat with his fellow athletes about the infield fly rule, stealing home, the art of hitting to opposite fields, the merits of a designated hitter, and other hot-button baseball issues. Aucoin also learned a couple of different ways to grip the baseball in order to throw different types of pitches. This came in handy as Aucoin was invited to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game.
Aucoin, who lives in Calgary with his family during the offseason, took time after his appearance to sign autographs for fans young and old.
The Flames players are always active in the community, even in the offseason. Keep your eyes peeled as you never know when you’ll run into one of them.
