About Last Night: Singing the Blues

by Torie Peterson / Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames seven-game winning streak was snapped on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis but the club's scrappy performance against the Blues earned plenty of praise from the C of Red.

They refused to back down despite falling behind 3-0, scoring twice in the third period and nearly tying things up in the late stages of the game.

As we said earlier, the Blues jumped out to an early lead. Vladamir Tarasenko scored his NHL-leading 21st goal of the year just 87 seconds into the game and then Colton Parayko added the Blues second goal of the day at 3:47 of the firsst period.

After that barrage, the Flames buckled down and played much better going forward. In the second period, they had plenty of chances but it was the Blues who managed to net the stanza's only goal. Jori Lehtera was able to beat Karri Ramo at 14:53.

It was Sean Monahan who got things going for the Flames, using great eye-hand coordination to whack the puck past Brian Elliott in the third period.

Then, Mark Giordano's shot deflected off a Blues stick and slipped past Elliott at 16:07 of the third period.

The C of Red for ready for another intense finish to the final frame.

But the boys couldn't find a way to get another puck past Elliott and fell 3-2. The good news? They get right back at it on Sunday evening when they visit the Detroit Red Wings! Watch the game on Sportsnet at 5:00 PM MT!
