CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames limped out of the gate on Tuesday night, spotting the Dallas Stars a 3-0 lead heading into the third period.
However, the Flames never quit attitude made an appearance.
First, it was Mikael Backlund who was able to bury his own rebound and put the Flames on the board.
Just over a minute later, the Flames narrowed the lead to only one.
Johnny Hockey slipped in front of the Stars net and jammed the puck home.
The comeback was now in full effect.
And the fans were hoping for some third period magic - like they had seen many times last season.
Just when it started to look like it would be too late, Dougie Hamilton stepped up in a big way.
With under three minutes to play in the game, Hamilton ripped a shot past Anti Niemi on a nice feed Sean Monahan.
The game would head to overtime.
Nothing would be solved in OT and a shootout would be needed.
Calgary’s first shooter, Joe Colborne, dangled around Niemi for the nice goal.
After Tyler Seguin drilled one off of the post, it was Johnny Hockey’s turn.
Gaudreau would find twine as he wristed one five-hole to put a stranglehold on the shootout.
Patrick Sharp would beat Ramo with a nice move, but it would not matter if Sean Monahan could score.
And he did score - with a nasty shimmy-shake move!
