With the NHL Trade Deadline lingering at noon PT today, some players could be making a move and some could be headed to Anaheim and San Jose, though certainly not in time to be in the lineup for today's game.
The Ducks had the benefit of getting two key players back from upper body injuries over the weekend, as Rickard Rakell returned to play both games vs. Colorado and Ryan Getzlaf was in the lineup in yesterday's 4-1 defeat. The Ducks managed just one goal in the two games vs. the Avs, but they face a Sharks team tonight that recently was the victim of one of the Anaheim's largest offensive outputs of the season.
Six days ago in San Jose, the Ducks rattled off three goals in the second period of a 5-1 victory over the Sharks. Five different Ducks scored goals and 13 had points, while John Gibson had 34 saves.
With Getzlaf back in the lineup, the focus is back on him eclipsing the Ducks franchise record for career points, currently held by Teemu Selanne at 989. Getzlaf needs eight points in the remaining 14 games to tie Selanne this season.
Players and coaches will have to take a wait-and-see approach with the trade deadline just hours away. "You shouldn't worry too much about it," Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. "But that does not discount when you're in a group like this, whether it's players, management or staff, you're all in this together, and you grow a great fondness and a love for each other.
