by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks

The Ducks have assigned center Petteri Wirtanen to the Portland Pirates, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Wirtanen, 21 (5/28/86), made his NHL debut on Oct. 17 against Nashville, scoring his first career goal in the third period of a 3-1 Ducks victory over the Predators.  He began the 2007-08 regular season with Portland, going scoreless in five games.

Originally selected by Anaheim in the sixth round (172nd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Wirtanen made his North American professional debut in 2006-07 with Portland.  In 67 games with the Pirates, he recorded 7-11=18 points with 40 penalty minutes.
