Another scrimmage highlighted the second session at Ducks training camp at THE RINKS – Anaheim ICE on Sunday afternoon. Next on the schedule is a set of split-squad preseason contests against the Colorado Avalanche tomorrow night.
After engaging in battles against teammates for the past three days, the players are looking forward to hitting bodies that aren’t in Ducks sweaters.
“Even though you’re in practice and you want to play hard, do the right things and play the right way, they’re still your teammates,” said defenseman Bryan Allen. “It’s definitely good to be playing against someone else.” The veteran blueliner was paired with Kevin Gagne during the 25-minute scrimmage.
Jakob Silfverberg has been on a line with Ryan Kesler and Patrick Maroon throughout training camp, and the trio figures to see some preseason action together. Silfverberg says it’s been a good fit so far. “It’s only been three days, but they’re two big guys who are both strong on the puck,” he said. “I just try to win pucks back to them. So far, it feels good.”
Silfverberg says he expects Kesler to have another strong year in 2014-15. “He’s one of the top players in the league,” he said. “He’s a big guy and a really strong skater. He’s really strong on the puck. He’s good on one-on-ones, and he’s really going to help us out a lot. I’m sure he’s going to have a good year.”
On his own expectations heading into this season, Silfverberg says he always wants to improve on the season prior. “I want to get better every year. I have more confidence heading into this year. I know the team better, I know the coach and hopefully I can put up more points and help the team win some games.”
