The second on-ice session of the day is now complete, marking the end of Day 2 of Anaheim’s 2014 training camp. The afternoon “Group B” featured the team’s big offseason acquisition Ryan Kesler, who skated on a line with Patrick Maroon and Jakob Silfverberg. All eyes were on Kesler, who received a standing ovation as he stepped off the ice.

“It was pretty cool to see,” he said, of the response he received. “I’m happy I got a warm welcome here. To hear those cheers was special. You don’t forget things like that.”

Morning Recap

Kesler shared his thoughts on his two linemates during the afternoon session. “With Patty, he’s a big body. With Silvy, he’s obviously a very skilled player,” he said. “Patty moves very well for a big man. It was fun to play with those guys. It was our first day together, and we have room to grow together, but I thought it was a good day.”

Maroon says he feels fortunate to be playing alongside Kesler right off the bat. “I guess Bruce [Boudreau] has a lot of confidence starting me out with Kesler. I’m very excited to get going. The first day was a little rusty, but once we get the flow of things, we’ll be good. I’m really excited to get the season going.”

After an injury-plagued 2013-14 season that limited him to 55 regular season games and five postseason contests, Ducks forward Matt Beleskey says he’s healthy and happy to be back on the ice. “It was awesome,” he said. "I’ve been here for a couple of weeks hanging out with the guys, getting back into the groove of things. To get out there, and have the coaches out there, feels good.”

Beleskey says his goal for this season is simple. “You always want to build on the year before and get better. In the playoffs, I felt really comfortable on the ice. I was able to make a difference on the ice. Hopefully, I can build on that.”
