The Ducks will host the third annual Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League (ADHSHL) All-Star Game presented by Hockey Giant this Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Honda Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. Featured players from the 28-team league will compete in both the Junior Varsity (5:30 p.m.) and Varsity (7:30 p.m.) All-Star Games. All 28 teams involved in the league will be represented by a player at the event, which will kick off with a College Fair for ADHSHL players. In addition, the ADHSHL All-Star Game will serve as the site for competition between the four finalists of the second annual Anaheim Ducks Battle of the Bands event.
A total of 78 players will compete in both the Junior Varsity (36 players) and Varsity (42 players) games this Wednesday. The first intermission of both games will feature a fastest skater competition between the participating athletes and the second intermission of each game will feature a shootout between the participants. Admission and parking to the ADHSHL All-Star Game is free and fans can enter Honda Center through the North doors beginning at 4 p.m. Last year’s event drew nearly 2,000 fans.
Bands comprised of students from ADHSHL schools were encouraged to submit their best song via DucksGoal.com. The four finalists featured at the All-Star Game will be judged by a celebrity panel featuring Cyrus Bolooki (New Found Glory drummer), Pat Sullivan (Guitar Center District Manager) and Pat Carpenter (Guitar Center Fountain Valley Store Manager). The grand-prize winner will receive $500, a Custom Les Paul Guitar, a meet-and-greet with New Found Glory, a feature on GuitarCenter.com and much more.
The Ducks launched the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League on July 1, 2008 with JSerra Catholic High School (San Juan Capistrano) as its charter member. Santa Margarita Catholic High (Santa Margarita) was added in 2009 and joined by Servite High (Anaheim), Damien High (La Verne) and Lutheran High School of Orange County (Orange) in 2010-11. From 2011-13 (two seasons), the ADHSHL increased to 12 schools and 14 teams with the inclusion of Bishop Amat/Upland Christian Academy, Edison (Huntington Beach), Long Beach Prep, Corona del Mar, Huntington Beach, Los Alamitos and Corona-Norco. The league doubled in size this season, swelling to 28 teams from 19 different California schools. The new schools included Bellarmine College Prep (San Jose, CA), San Diego Unified (student-athletes participating from the entire district), Villa Park High School, Woodbridge High School (Irvine) and Capistrano Unified (student-athletes participating from entire district). As the league continues to grow, the Anaheim Ducks will continue to provide financial support for each team involved in the program.
