The gleaming metallic gold cage on Jonas Hiller’s new mask was unmistakable as he manned the net for the Ducks on Friday afternoon against the Coyotes. But a closer look at the mask reveals much more.
Hiller had the mask delivered to him just before his last game with Portland, prior to the Ducks recalling him Nov. 16. Before that, he was wearing a plain white mask.
His new mask was designed by an artist from Hiller's native country of Switzerland.
Here is a closer look at Hiller’s new mask:
The front of the mask includes the shiny metallic gold cage, and bright orange stripes over a faded Ducks "D" logo. The bottom portion includes Aquarius, which is Hiller's zodiac sign (his birthday is Feb. 12). "Zodiac signs are a lot bigger deal in Europe than they are here," Hiller says.

The left side of the mask includes the full Ducks logo, an image of Honda Center under glimmering stars and a Swiss symbol. "We weren't sure where we could fit that symbol, but we found a spot for it," Hiller says.
The right side features a metallic gold Ducks "D" logo and palm trees that signify Hiller's current California home.
The back sports Hiller's name and a Chinese symbol that Hiller says is simply a "sign for luck."
