DALLAS – The Ducks are counting on having right wing Teemu Selanne
in the lineup tonight against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center, even though Selanne wasn’t even in town when the club took part in its morning skate.
Selanne did not travel to Dallas with the Ducks on Wednesday because of illness, but was scheduled to fly in Thursday morning and, presumably, be in the lineup against the Stars.
Defenseman James Wisniewski, meanwhile, is expected to play despite having been ill Wednesday. Selanne and Wisniewski bring to three the number of Ducks players who have fallen ill of late. Defenseman Nick Boynton missed Saturday’s practice for the same reason, but did not miss any game action.
Winger Joffrey Lupul, meanwhile, skated this morning for a second consecutive day and appears to be making significant progress from the back spasms that have sidelined him the past six games. Getting back into game shape and building strength in the back are the main priorities at this point, Lupul said.
“I had an injection a couple days ago that offered quite a bit of relief,” Lupul said. “I’m just taking it day by day, trying to get better. Hopefully, this gets it as close to 100 percent as possible.”
Defenseman Brett Festerling, recalled Wednesday from the Toronto Marlies of the American League, will be in the lineup tonight, Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. It had yet to be determined whether Festerling would skate alongside Steve Eminger or perhaps Scott Niedermayer, Carlyle said.
