Santa Margarita Catholic High School's varsity, a member of the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League, won the California Amateur Hockey Association High School State Championship for the second year in a row Sunday in San Jose. The Eagles rolled to a 7-1 victory in the final over JSerra Catholic High School (San Juan Capistrano), a fellow member of the ADHSHL.
Santa Margarita will travel to Coral Springs, Fla., for the National Championship Tournament on March 20-24.
The Ducks launched the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League on July 1, 2008 with JSerra Catholic High School (San Juan Capistrano) as its charter member. Santa Margarita Catholic High (Santa Margarita) was added in 2009 and joined by Servite High (Anaheim), Damien High (La Verne) and Lutheran High School of Orange County (Orange) in 2010-11. Over the past two seasons, the four-year old ADHSHL has swelled to 12 schools and 14 teams with the inclusion of Bishop Amat/Upland Christian Academy, Edison (Huntington Beach), Long Beach Prep, Corona del Mar, Huntington Beach, Los Alamitos and Corona-Norco. As the league continues to grow, the Anaheim Ducks will continue to provide financial support for each team involved in the program.
